Blog Post #5

I have learned that there are different steps to take when developing research and there are different methods to be used when conducting studies. It all starts with picking a topic and then learning about the background information to determine if there is enough there to conduct research. Then sources need to be found and evaluated. The sources should help the research move along and then the writing process should begin. The writing process should involve many drafts and revisions.  These processes have taught me to pursue topics I find interesting and to always try to challenge myself. My topic had to do with Planned Parenthood which is something that I am interested in. I got to learn a lot of new information that I did not know before and conducting research on this topic helped me to further develop my problem-solving skills.

My first plan for the revision is to start with reviewing the feedback of my literature review so that I can see what areas need to be stronger. I then plan to use a lot of the information that I gathered from my literature review to use for my proposal. At first glance, it looked like the things that I need to focus on the most are to add more connections between my sources and text, include my research gap within it, and create stronger connections between the text and the website. For my project I am asking a few women from different ages and from different backgrounds to review Planned Parenthood's website and answer a series of questions. I am hoping that doing this will help people change their overall perspective on Planned Parenthood and the work they do for women. I am also hopeful that people will find the website to be very well laid out and comforting for those who might be skeptical.

My literature review was on the web design and rhetoric used on Planned Parenthoods website. The existence of Planned Parenthoods clinic is very controversial, so I thought that it might be interesting to see what they used on their website that appealed to readers. I learned a lot about all of the different services that this clinic provides and I found it really interesting how their website was worded and set up in a way that made users feel safe and comfortable while viewing some of the information that could be viewed as intimidating on their site. It was a little bit difficult for me to find information and credible sources that directly related to Planned Parenthoods rhetoric and use of web design, however, I was able to find many sources that helped me to make that connection myself. The gap for my review was whether or not Planned Parenthoods websites web design and rhetoric appealed to viewers and while I did not find sources that related to this exactly, I was to conclu...

For my topic I am interested in looking at Planned Parenthoods website and see how they word their pages. They use specific writing to help their website and business sound like a safe place and help everyone understand how everything works so I thought it would interesting to look into the language used and see how readers respond to that language. I am still not quite sure what I will be doing specifically or what my research question is though. I found sources in rhetoric used in websites, website design, the planned parenthood web pages, and different marketing words. Parenthood, P. (n.d.). Blogpost 1 - Topic interests

I've been looking into different options for my topic. I am still unsure about the topic I want to pursue. I don't know if it will even work as a topic. The other day, I was watching this show about people that struggle with addiction so I thought that having a topic that somehow involves finding and sharing tools to help those that struggle with different types of addiction. I'm not exactly sure what I would like to focus on specifically yet, but I thought this subject might be a good one. I also feel like a lot of people look past addiction so I might also want to create something to help other people gain a better understanding of what it is like to struggle with it.
