My literature review was on the web design and rhetoric used on Planned Parenthoods website. The existence of Planned Parenthoods clinic is very controversial, so I thought that it might be interesting to see what they used on their website that appealed to readers. I learned a lot about all of the different services that this clinic provides and I found it really interesting how their website was worded and set up in a way that made users feel safe and comfortable while viewing some of the information that could be viewed as intimidating on their site. It was a little bit difficult for me to find information and credible sources that directly related to Planned Parenthoods rhetoric and use of web design, however, I was able to find many sources that helped me to make that connection myself. The gap for my review was whether or not Planned Parenthoods websites web design and rhetoric appealed to viewers and while I did not find sources that related to this exactly, I was to conclude that the web design and rhetoric used was appropriate and appealing.

  1. Tia, your topic sounds really interesting and is not something I would normally consider. Like you, I struggle to find sources that relate exactly to my topic, but it really helps to find a variety of different ones that can be connected. As Dr. B would say, "chunks and nuggets" is a useful way to examine a piece of text. Planned Parenthood is a very significant organization and I think it is important that their website reflects that, so I think it is great that you are studying this topic!
