Blog Post #4
My first plan for the revision is to start with reviewing the feedback of my literature review so that I can see what areas need to be stronger. I then plan to use a lot of the information that I gathered from my literature review to use for my proposal. At first glance, it looked like the things that I need to focus on the most are to add more connections between my sources and text, include my research gap within it, and create stronger connections between the text and the website. For my project I am asking a few women from different ages and from different backgrounds to review Planned Parenthood's website and answer a series of questions. I am hoping that doing this will help people change their overall perspective on Planned Parenthood and the work they do for women. I am also hopeful that people will find the website to be very well laid out and comforting for those who might be skeptical.
Hey Tia! That sounds like a solid plan. One of the things I think I'm most unsure about is how to condense the Lit Review - which areas to take out and what would be important to know for the proposal, so I definitely get that with reviewing the lit review to see what areas need to be stronger and to know what to put in and what to leave out. I think part of me wonders too if the lit review information should be confined to only one area, or if we would potentially be able to use different quotations in other areas to help give a background on what we want to research. Sounds like you have a good layout of what direction you would like the proposal to go!
ReplyDeleteHi, Tia. I agree with Brooke in that your plan for moving forward seems like a reliable way to go about it. I'm personally less concerned about condensing my literature review than I am with formatting my methods section, as I'm still fine tuning some of my questions and respondent plans (we're both using interviews and/or surveys!). Analyzing how the Planned Parenthood website's text is perceived by a variety of respondents is definitely a cool topic. I'd be curious to see what the results would be if you used this proposal for your capstone!
ReplyDeleteHi Tia,
ReplyDeleteGreat revision plans and suggestions from Brooke and Emily, so far! As you finalize your research proposal, take note of my feedback in your literature review in order to tighten this section of the proposal as well.
I think your topic is well-anchored within our field (PTW) overall -- keep in mind the potential focus the research analysis on investigating how the PP website itself was successful in disseminating much-needed information on birth control, etc. to the general public.
In this case, feel free to draw from theories/sources on writing for multimedia and the web, public or civic rhetoric, and so on for your research method, ok? That is, the method on how to rhetorically analyze the PP website.
Best,
Dr. B
