Blog Post #5
I have learned that there are different steps to take when developing research and there are different methods to be used when conducting studies. It all starts with picking a topic and then learning about the background information to determine if there is enough there to conduct research. Then sources need to be found and evaluated. The sources should help the research move along and then the writing process should begin. The writing process should involve many drafts and revisions.
These processes have taught me to pursue topics I find interesting and to always try to challenge myself. My topic had to do with Planned Parenthood which is something that I am interested in. I got to learn a lot of new information that I did not know before and conducting research on this topic helped me to further develop my problem-solving skills.
The steps felt almost overwhelming when I looked at them as a whole. It made the project and research more attainable when I took it step by step. The topic I chose is one that I wouldn't say i'm interested in but more that I wanted to make an impact on. I do agree with you that it's important to pursue topics that you have an interest in. I think it allows you to be more connected to your research. I think you've done very well with your topic from what I have read!
ReplyDeleteI originally found the steps to be overwhelming at first too. It's a lot when you look at it all together. Breaking it all down really helped me to put the different pieces together. Thanks for your comment!
DeleteHey Tia.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you can present in class on your topic. As one of the recently-educated and previously oblivious members of society, I know that Planned Parenthood has roles and responsibilities beyond abortion and handing out birth control. But I think the stigma is so hard to overcome. Educating the end-user is always the hardest aspect of any job. I guess we have lots to work on as great prof/tech writers in the future!
Best,
Rachel
Thank you so much for your comment! I have learned so much from this project and I am excited to share it with the class. There is definitely a stigma behind Planned parenthood, but there really is so much more to what they do than just abortions.
